2024 Sectional Checklist

  1. Know if you can attend state

  2. Have a working and charged cell phone that can take pictures.  Jason Proffit’s phone number should be programmed into your phone.  651-797-9054

  3. Have your boat in working order, properly maintained, and licensed.

  4. Follow all MNDNR rules for fishing including having life vests for all in the boat and a throwable.  Participants will be required to wear their life vests while the big engine is being used.

  5. Have appropriate release tools: large muskie net, long nosed pliers, hook cutters, measuring device for length.  Let me know if you need any release tools or net as I have some you can borrow.

  6. Know how to get to Bald Eagle boat ramp.  You are strongly encouraged to pre-fish during June 7-13th.

  7. Sunscreen, raingear, etc.  Tournament will continue in the rain.  High winds, lightning will postpone or suspend the tournament.  If weather significantly limits the tournament, positions for state will be determined by a blind draw.  This is determined by the section director.

  8. Rods, reels, baits are your responsibility. No live bait can be used.  Trolling is acceptable.

  9. If you are old enough that you need a fishing license (16 and older), you have to have one for the tournament.

Basic Tournament Rules:

Hours: 5:30am to 1:30pm are the tournament hours.  You do not have to start at 5:30am.

Check in with Jason Proffit when you arrive at Bald Eagle Boat Ramp for release tool inspection and bag with prizes.

If you catch a Muskie or northern, take a picture, measure length, text pic to Jason Proffit this will establish time of catch.

If there is a tie the earlier catch will be the winner.  Tournament Point system will be attached to this email.  Most points win.

If no Muskies are caught, the largest Northern will determine winners.  No point system.

Boat drivers may only drive the boat and lend assistance in releasing a fish.  Catching, landing, choice of spots, choice of bait, choice of fishing technique is made by the participants and not the driver.  Trolling motor is handled by participants.

New this year: Participant boats must have a ribbon, given at check-in, tied around the trolling motor or somewhere visible during the event.  This is also to be consistent with new 2023 state rules.

Photo(s) must be sent immediately after clean release of fish and will not be accepted after 1:30 PM.

Awards Ceremony

There will be an informal awards ceremony this year, teams that catch a muskie will be asked to stay for state information purposes.  Please check north metro muskies inc facebook page for final results.

Everyone will get a lure and prizes.

1st place will have their names put on the traveling trophy and I will deliver it to your school for display until next May.
